Help Street Dogs.There are more than 20,000 street dogs in Kathmandu. Working with this Placement Partner will have you humanely treat the street dog problem through a commmunity changing spay, neuter and release program. Endangered turtle rehabilitation.
Seven of the eight species of Ontario turtles are now listed as species at risk. Do your part in volunteering as a medical or standard volunteer and not only will you help with rehabilitation, you will also help with education, over-wintering and a thriving endangered turtle breeding program.

Humane dog and cat population management and education. This organization focuses their efforts on two main objectives. Their educational campaign promotes responsible pet ownership and targets school-aged children and the general public. Their mobile spay and neuter clinics offer free pet sterilization to members of the community, in conjunction with Pet Health Services of the State of Puebla.

Sick, injured and orphaned flying foxes and bat care in a hospital setting.Bats have long been the victims of negative public opinion, and this coupled with loss a habitat, are the root causes of many problems facing the conservation of bats. The hospital dedicates its efforts to rescuing sick, injured and orphaned bats and treats all four species of Australian flying foxes,and a few microbats such as Little Free-tailed bats and Becarrii’s Free-tailed bats.

Help create blogs and photograph/video records of the rehabiliation and release of orangutans and elephants.Work at the organization's stations and field camps following patrols and the elephant team to photograph and video tape activities. Part of your time will be spent writing and placing articles about the rehabilition and release of elephant and orangutan populations for Facebook and on the organization’s website.

Work directly with sea turtle eggs, hatchlings and adults in order to conserve their populations.Tragically, the Pacific leatherback turtle is nearing extinction with only 2000 individuals remaining in the entire Pacific ocean. Turtle populations are declining rapidly due to the industrial longline tuna and swordfish fisheries as well as unregulated egg poaching on nesting beaches. The conservation program operates successful sea turtle hatcheries, carries out research on sea turtles, and educates local communities about the need to conserve the natural resources on which they depend.

Wildlife and primate care in a sanctuary.Wild animals in Thailand are experiencing pressures from many sources – loss of habitat, hunting, the illegal pet trade, use of animals by the entertainment industry, and cruelty and abuse by people. In an attempt to help native wildlife this organization runs several projects including hands-on wildlife rescue, medical care, wildlife rehabilitation, community education and research.

Develop educational tools and present to local schools about wildlife and habitat conservation.This wildlife conservation organization began as a wildlife rescue centre in northern Guatemala and has grown to also include environmental education, research, co-administration of protected areas, marine turtle conservation, ecotourism, reforestation and sustainable community development. It is now one of the largest and most complex rescue centres in the world.
This placement is suitable for any Standard level volunteer. This is a high level Spanish speaking placement.

Elephant care and handling in a sanctuary. Elephants have no laws to protect them from abuse or mistreatment. The mission of this elephant rescue centre is to stop the suffering of these magnificent creatures. They do this by providing a sanctuary for neglected and mistreated elephants that would otherwise be living on the streets of Bankok or other large cities. Volunteers take part in every part of the elephant's care at this sanctuary. Everything from bathing to feeding to harvesting the elephants food.

Rehabilatate animals rescued from the animal trafficking trade. Volunteers at this rescue center help in feeding and caring for the animals at the center which include parrots, macaws, spider and howler monkeys, margays, ocelots, boa constrictors (pictured), coatimundis, tayras and kinkajous. Nearly all of these animals have been seized from smugglers and are very young, needing constant care and attention.

Participate in turtle conservation in India. Many species of turtles in Asia are in danger of becoming extinct. This is due in large part to the rampant and unsustainable harvesting of Asian turtle populations to supply Chinese markets - a situation known as the Asian Turtle Crisis. This wide-reaching turtle conservation project was started in response to this crisis, and develops breeding programs for the most critically endangered of the world's chelonian species.

Provide care for sick and injured adults sea turtles.You will volunteer on a project in the Osa Peninsula which offers volunteers a unique opportunity to help with a scientific study involving Green Turtles and Hawksbill Turtles. Volunteers assist with in water research and conservation projects to assess the threats that sea turtles are exposed to in the area.

Collect sea turtle eggs and provide care for sick and injured hatchling sea turtles.You will volunteer on beaches which are nesting sites for many Leatherback, Hawksbill and Green Sea Turtles who come to lay their eggs here. Without the help of this organization, 100% of the eggs laid by these magnificent creatures along the beach would be taken by poachers.

Humane animal population management.Already in poor health, it is common for these stray dogs to die from starvation and from lack of shelter. The feral dog population also poses a very serious health risk to the people of Siera Leone through dog bite injuries and the transmission of rabies.

Provide care to turtles who live in the Great Barrier Reef.This organization was formed in 2000 by concerned local marine biologists, veterinary health
